Aims

  1. To disseminate the awareness about the importance of pain management within the medical practitioners and the layman
  2. To organize scientific meetings, congresses and training courses on national and international grounds
  3. To push the establishment of pain relief centers all over Egypt especially in remote locations.
  4. To issue the national journal (PAIN) which would help to print out the research work papers of the pain doctors
  5. To facilitate joining the ESMP via this web site

Formulation

  1. The ESMP was formulated as non governmental organization. It is non prophet able non political society.
  2. The ESMP was established on 1981 and included 30 members only. This small No. was enough to register the ESMP in the official authorities in EGYPT. Since then the No. of members is gradually increasing.
  3. According to the local Egyptian regulations 1/3 of the board should be dropped and new members should be elected.
  4. Every 6 years a new board should be completely changed.
  5. The present board was elected starting 2003 due to the issue of new law for the NGOs.

Past Activities

  1. The ESMP was responsible to organize the annual national Egyptian Pain Congress 1982 to date. Some times the national Congress was organized in collaboration with other institutions such Italian, Turkish, Syrian UAE, Tunisian and Jordanian Societies or Universities.
  2. The ESMP adopted the WHO program for the management of cancer pain on 1987. This was one year after the release of the program allover the world.
  3. The ESMP succeeded to put
    1. Official policy to treat cancer pain
    2. Official pain education
    3. Official Legislation and Availability of Narcotics
    4. Most of the narcotics are available now in the Cancer pain relief centers allover Egypt.
